We have had quite an adventurous summer, so far...
We started our Texas vacation in Galveston and ate at a restaurant on the water.
It was nice and warm outside (about 104º with 70% humidity).
Quite a difference from the Pacific NW - we loved it!
The next day, we walked along the beach.
Talk about warm water!
We stopped in Houston to tour NASA.
Everyone there was sad because the shuttle program had just ended about two days beforehand.
It was amazing to realize just how long the space program has been a part of our lives.
Here's Warren hanging out with a few of his astronaut buddies...
Soon, we were on our way to San Antonio.
I will spare you pictures of our long, straight, unexciting road trip.
We checked into our hotel on the River Walk - it was terrific.
Here's the view from our window - the RW is right below the bridge.
Everyone told us we should eat at Mi Tierra, a Mexican restaurant in the marketplace.
It is huge (500 tables or some such craziness) and we went on Sunday morning.
We believe there must have been about 1000 families waiting to get in, because it was JAMMED!
The place is a wonderland of decorations!
The food was excellent.
We toured The Alamo...
...and found the BEST margarita in the world, called a Cactus Viper.
On Tuesday, we ate brunch at the Pioneer Flour Mill, which is still in production.
The restaurant is in The Guenther House next door.
We sat on the patio, under the pergola, in the bottom right of the picture...
...and drove through the King William section of town.
We decided to drive up to the hill country.
In Frederickburg, we toured the World War II in the Pacific Museum.
The picture below is of the Admiral Nimitz Museum, which we did not have enough time to tour.
We were surprised to find that Fred'burg is the Admiral's hometown.
It was ironic, because Tim is working on the Nimitz in Bremerton!
While we were in the museum, I missed a phone call from Yelm.
Thank goodness cell phones have the info listed under 'recent calls'.
"Who do I know it Yelm?" thought I; so called the number back to find out.
It was a nice person inviting me to consider applying for a job with their school district.
"Absolutely!" I said.
"The interview is scheduled for Thursday," he said.
"I will be there!" said I.
Wednesday, we visited the San Antonio Cathedral, where the heroes of the Alamo are enshrined.
During the week we really enjoyed spending time on The River Walk.
We got home late Wednesday evening and drove to Yelm for my interview on Thursday.
Afterwards, we met up with John and Diane, who would soon be heading back to Arizona.
Their Lacey home is the epitome of a simplified lifestyle and we had a great time hanging out.
What a gift to have such great friends!
We have know them since Arianna was 2 months old - see below to see just how long it's been!
Friday rolled around and it was my birthday!
Mom, Arianna and Tim met us at Wild Ginger and then we all saw Aladdin at the 5th Avenue.
On Saturday, we took Jean to lunch on the waterfront.
It was a fabulously glorious day!
On Monday, I got the call I was hoping for.
I was offered and accepted the job as
Assistant Director of Special Services / SLP for Yelm Community Schools.
On Tuesday, I resigned my job and drove to Yelm to sign papers and meet with my boss.
On Wednesday, washed clothes, packed and let things sink in.
On Thursday and Friday, attended the OSPI Special Education Conference in Tacoma.
I will rooming with Mom for awhile : - )
Arianna turned 25 years old on August 4!
Life has just gone from 0 to 90 and I am peddling as fast as I can!

Wow! Congratulations on the new job. What does that mean in terms of commute? Are you going to be moving south or making that horrendous drive every day?
Whatever you do decide, it is still FABULOUS news, congrats again!!!
