A new hobby has begun! Warren received beer making materials as a Christmas / Anniversary present. I even provided him with a mentor, his pal Rob. Rob masterminded and brewed, with Warren's help, the Low Brass Brown beer we served at Arianna and Tim's wedding. It was yummy! I decided that Warren should start with a Pale Ale, since he likes pilsners. I prefer more amber beers, so that's next on the docket.

Per usual, I forgot to take pictures DURING the event, but here is a photog of Warren cleaning up. Exciting, huh? The boiler pot held about 6 gallons of liquid and was full to the top by the time they cooked it up. Here's the first batch in the carboy, where it will ferment for 3-5 days. After that, it will be put in a secondary carboy for another fermenting period of about a week. Then, it gets bottled! While they were cooking up the brew, the smell reminded me of the past when my dad, Phil, used to make beer in Davenport using a crock covered with cheese cloth. We are hoping we can find his old bottle capper in Mom's garage or attic.
Speaking of Mom, here I am saying "Hello" to one of her favorite organizations! Speaking of Dad, here are some photos from the "Dig It!" exhibit at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.

Fun! My dad and brother both love to brew their own beers. I'm sure Warren will have a great time experiencing with the different beers as time goes by.
