July 20 - August 7, 2009

The first week from vacation was filled with long days of learning about 'Life Space Crisis Intervention', which I'm happy to say I am now certified to do...so if you have Symptom Estrangement or Reality Rub issues... give me a call! The minute I finished the course, Warren picked me up & drove us straight into a major traffic jam from Lynnwood to Vancouver WA - Friday July 24. We'd decided to head down to Bend OR for my cousin Helen (& her husband John)'s 30th Anniversary Surprise Party. We stayed in the Heathman Lodge on Friday night & ate in their wonderful restaurant called Hudson's. On Saturday, we headed across the mountains past Mount Hood and arrived in Bend in time for the celebration. It was great to see everyone & the kids did a great job planning the party. 30 years! Wow!
We left on Sunday morning, but stopped at Mount Hood to ride the Alpine Slide - twice! WB got a much faster sled than me the 2nd time, so I was crazy jealous of his speed. When we got to Boring, we stopped & had lunch at an A&W that still uses servers who roller-skate to bring the trays out to the cars!
I do miss the A&W frosty mugs of root beer. It's just not the same in a paper cup, filled with ice, slurped up with a straw.
Then, we started into a summer of McHop, Wells, & Maguire dental appointments - I think every member of our family has seen the dentist since 7/27, except for Brady. The weather was great, but HOT, HOT, HOT, so on Monday, WB & I went to see the new Harry Potter matinee. Wednesday, July 29th, was my birthday. WB & I spent the day in Seattle. Later, the Wells, Hopkins, & Mom met us for dinner at the Waterfront Grill. Yum!

The following day, we decided to hit another matinee (Hangover) & ended up being the ONLY people there! It's kind of gross, but, a very funny movie! On Saturday, Aug. 1, we saw another fun production: Catch Me If You Can @ the 5th Avenue theater with Mom. We tried to go to a small French restaurant for lunch beforehand, but, it was overflowing. So, we went next door to the Virginia Inn. Good substitute with excellent food!
Later that night, Cousin Darleen came to visit & was able to stay overnight. *Sadly, we forgot to get any photo evidence of her visit - so silly. We went out to brunch on Sunday and then she, a Master Gardener, helped us pick out a gorgeous hanging basket of Supertunias. Back at the house, she helped me identify which plants needed to be destructo-gardened out of existence. After she left, I started hacking & slashing. Very rewarding!! Ironically, Roberta had given me a banner of geraniums because she thought I could take care of a picture better than the real things! She is right about that!! ; -)
I had finally decided to face the fact that allergies seemed to be taking over my life, so on 8/3, went in for testing. Surprise! The only 2 things I am allergic to are cats & dogs - but, only after a period of exposure. Ari & WB are jealous.
On 8/4, we drove (again through a major traffic jam) to Bremerton to celebrate our baby girl's 23rd birthday. Tim made a wonderful salmon dinner & we enjoyed the evening with Tim's parents, niece Laura (who shortly returned for her junior year at WSU), and Grandma McColley (Mom). Ari made herself the RICHEST birthday bowl of "dirt" I've ever had the pleasure to ingest. She has more pictures on her blog. The ferry ride home included a nice long conversation with Tim & Patty, who agree that we each have the perfect children-in-law.
We have gotten quotes to have the house painted, as I'm not letting WB do it - no roof walking for my sweet honey. It should be starting next week. Should be nice to have a fresh looking house (on the outside, at least).
I have been busy working on school things. The beautiful schedule I created turns out to have major problems, so will be redoing it about 1,000,000 times. We interviewed a number of fabulous teachers for 1.5 open positions. Am I ever glad I'm not out there this year - by the grace of God go I.
Warren went out to do a True Colors workshop - Arianna became certified as a True Colors trainer earlier this summer - and is organizing his new business: WB Hopkins Consulting. Maybe they will collaborate on some projects in the future?
I will close with a pic of our almost 3 year & 8 month old favorite guys:
